Not "hay mattress!" Hey! As in "hello". I haven't been here in a while and I'm sorry. I was going to post one day and couldn't find my camera with the pictures. Turned out my son had borrowed it and not returned it! Grrr!
I haven't been terribly busy. Well, I have been, but nothing worth posting about!
I have a question and I hope I get lots of feedback. Our mattress is 18-19 years old and just killing our backs, hips and everything else. I can't sleep on my back because it hurts too much and it even hurts to sleep on my side, but then my Port is still very painful (another story) and that makes it hard to sleep on my side. We don't have money for a new mattress, but some places have sales on mattresses right now for Columbus Day and they have interest-free payment plans.
What kind of mattress do you like?
What have you hated?
When you don't buy one very often, it's always hard to know what brand to look at. There are so many different ways they are made anymore and I want one to last.
My preference is a Sleep Number bed. My parents have one and I've been looking at them. They are more expensive but I love how you can adjust them to your bodies needs over the years. They do have sales right now and we could make interest-free payments for 2 years. But they are a lot of money and I want to compare them to some "regular" mattresses, but don't know which to be comparing!!
So, give me your mattress reviews!!!!

Hey back! It's nice to hear from you. We have a Serta. It's a pillow top and we like it. Before that we had a water bed, so I've got no comparison. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have been married for 11 years and we have gone through 6 mattresses trying to find the right one. I'm sorry I can't help either! I do think the pillow top ones are awful though. We are in major pain right now from our pillow top.
ReplyDeleteI have a pretty good pillowtop mattress and love it, but it's 20 years old, although still in good shape. Today I was in a Brookstone store at the mall and I sat in their massage chair and then laid on their Tempurpedic bed. That's the kind I would REALLY love to have!!! It's expensive, but OMG, it is heavenly! If I could have the massage chair and the bed...(sigh)
ReplyDeleteSleep number, king size, has a "ridge" in the middle - each side has it's own chamber - and the air tubes deflate and are constantly readjusting themselves - that would drive me insane if it is like a hospital bed that rotates inflation - anyhow, that's the whole reason I didn't choose that bad boy - well that and the ridge because I sleep across the bed and move all around it through the night
ReplyDeleteI will tell you that I spent a lot of money on a tube water bed (like a regular mattress on the outside, but tubes of water on the inside) and I am in misery but cannot bring myself to get a new mattress until I "get the money" out of this 1. The pillowtop is the problem, it breaks down over time.
The 2 that I've investigated are Simmons Beauty Rest - extremely expensive - but I have 2 sets of friends who have had theirs for 20+ years and they are still like new (they do flip them every 6 months). The other is a Serta, but I will never ever buy another pillowtop style.
If you check out Big Lots, they do a lot of Serta's at a decent price if you could come up with the money or put it on a card.
You are going to think this is silly (as many people have) but my husband and I both sleep on blow up mattresses. We bought a Select Comfort bed (king size) around $700.00. We had a queen Select Comfort and then bought a king also. They inflate and deflate to suit each person. It didn't help my husband. My husband has a bad back and his hips hurt also so he tried the blow up on top of our SC. He loves it - it has taken all the pain out of his back and hips. No pressure points. I travel so much to my moms and couldn't sleep at her house so I also tried the blow up and it works. I just take an extra one to her house and I feel like I have my bed with me. The blow ups are around $17.00. You can fit two on a king size bed.
