The doctor says....

the car is totalled. The insurance adjuster checked the car today and says it is totalled. The amount they are giving us is less than we thought - boo hoo.

I stopped to take pictures of the other guy's Jeep Wrangler and found out that the guy had a dislocated shoulder.

The other doctor took off Ryan's cast this morning and removed the pin. YEAH! The worst is now behind us! He now has a boot on for the next month and has to start putting weight on it, very gradually. 15lbs., next day 25lbs, and so on. He's allowed to go swimming next week, but the problem is we don't have access to a swimming pool and that's where the dr. said he could go. We have access to a free beach at a lake, but that has contaminants so they are getting back to us on when and how we can do that.

I am really fighting discouragement these days. I feel like I've lost my joy. As a Christian I know that our joy should come from the Lord and not from circumstances, so I know I'm looking too much at the mounting bills and problems and it's stealing my joy.

But that's head knowledge. Not doing that is hard. I can use your prayers because I just have that buried alive feeling and don't feel any joy these days.

  8. The sermon we heard on Sunday was very fitting to anyone going through hard times. The pastor shared how we all need to praise the Lord - in spite of the circumstances, in spite of our feelings. Easy to say, harder to do. Praising the Lord - certainly not for the current set of circumstances, but simply because He Is! He is worthy and desires our praise.

Also, during the same sermon, pastor Stan shared that "happiness" comes about because something good "happens" to us. Joy comes as a gift from the Lord.

I am not trying to preach to you, please understand. We had gone through some difficult things a couple of weeks ago where I blew it - I didn't praise the Lord and it was hard going through the circumstances. Looking back, I wish I would have just praised Him anyway - I'm sure the circumstances would have been the same, but I wouldn't have - I would have felt the strength that can only come from Him.

    Praying for you!

  16. HI, I just found your blog and have been reading about your car accident. I saw that the insurance co isn't giving you what you expected. A woman hit our van last year and we went through the same thing. What the insurance offered was ridiculous. A friend of ours told us that you don't have to take their first offer! You go online, find three of the same vehicle that you are replacing for sale and print off those ads. Take them to your agent and tell them this is what it would cost to replace the vehicle. It works! We got a higher offer. I had never been in an accident and didn't know this. I was so grateful for the information and I am passing it along. Hope this helps you.
