I just had to brag on Ryan to ya'll.
Today Ryan was in charge of the petting zoo from 9-4:30. This afternoon he saw a teenage girl collapse outside the petting zoo fence.
Ryan vaulted over the fence to her "like an army medic" (that's what he said he felt like!) . She was unconscious so he grabbed his nearby lunchcooler and applied the icepack in it to the girl while he dialed 911. She was out about 3 min. He said when she opened her eyes the first thing she saw was his "beautiful face!" lol When she woke he lifted her head and gave her water from his water bottle and asked if she wanted anything to eat while she waited for the ambulance. I had packed 2 orange-blueberry muffins and she wanted one of those and ate half, he said. Her hands were curled and stiff so she wasn't able to hold anything so he did everything for her.
After the ambulance left with her the Director and other zoo keepers were all surrounding him asking for details. He said he felt like he was giving an interview! The Director was angry she wasn't called right away, but Ryan said the girl was unconscious and he was busy. She eventually said he handled it well and did a good job. His Supervisor told him that he's a great volunteer to have.
He was so excited when he jumped in the car later, telling me how he deserved something very special because he saved someone's life this afternoon!
