They're actually not a nut, but a berry that grows in India and Nepal. There are two varieties, small and large. The large quantity of saponin in the shells acts as a gentle detergent when it comes in contact with water.
Soap Nuts are 100% non-allergenic and antimicrobial (meaning they break down the grey water in your septic system).
