Cat chase

My neighbors moved out of their house and left their 2 stray cats behind. I say "stray" because they were mostly outdoor cats. That leaves us with about 4-5 stray cats because of the other ones in the neighborhood.

I'm a proponent for keeping your cats safely inside. My biggest worry is that one of our dogs is going to chase after one of those cats and get hit by a car. Usually when my dogs are outside they are in the safety of their dog run, but sometimes they are loose in the yard with one of us. But those cats catch their eye and off they go.

Our dogs will then have tunnel-vision and seem suddenly deaf. I'm so afraid they will dart across the road and be hit.

I think we are a lot like that. We let things side-track us and get our full attention. Then we are off chasing after them, not thinking about the danger. Not thinking that we aren't where we are supposed to be.

God wants our eyes on him, our attention focused on Him. If we do that, the things around us fall into place and we are happiest.

So, this weekend, don't take your eyes off Him and go chasing after any "cats" when you know you shouldn't!

(You know what else? My dog knows where to turn to when he's scared! My son is vacuuming and my Golden is terrified of the vacuum. - wuss! - So he has run to me and hidden under my legs at the desk because he knows who will protect him! I think there's a lesson in there, too, don't you?)

  1. Good analogy - another point to my focus post (that is still pending :).

When we first moved to AL, our dog, Mercy, chased a bird off a 40-foot cliff! The cliff was hidden by the trees from the valley below - we didn't even know the danger was there. She survived, but is a 3-legged dog because of it. It is also another neat story of God's Mercy to us! (there were several other things, but this is already long enough :)

    Have a great weekend!

  6. Yes - I had heard about the tornado touching down in Clay Twp - I didn't look at pictures (yet :). It's amazing that we have this connection from the past.

Sorry - my "focus" post probably won't be as profound as the delay has made it out to be - it's simply that I didn't have any time to write it.

Hope you had a great weekend!

  9. Animals can teach us so much. My dog reacts the same way when it comes to cats so I won't let her come in the front yard without a leash. I sometimes ask God to keep me on a tight leash in situations where I know temptations are high.

    Thank you for your prayers.
Thanks also for being a fan. :)

  10. Ugh!!! Nothing is worse when my babies see the neighbors cats. Lilly chases them and they have a HATE relationship. They have their front claws so I always get so nervous!
