CF Clinic Day

Yesterday was a long day. The days that I go to CF clinic always are.

My mom spent the night Tuesday night, so that she could go along with me. We got up WAAAAAYYYY too early for my taste (since I don't get much sleep at night) and left the house at 7AM (EST). We were traveling into Central Time, but I will just give all times in EST so that it's less confusing.

We arrived at Vanderbilt (Nashville) with 5 minutes to spare, for my Glucose Challenge at 10AM. Diabetes is a common problem for people with Cystic Fibrosis so we get tested each year for it. They do one fasting blood draw, then you drink this syrup that's like soda. Kind of. You have to drink it w/in 5 min.

Then I had to wait for 2 hours until they could do another blood draw. The nurse was so nice and offered my mom and me a clinic room to hang out in for the 2 hours! She even brought my mom coffee! (I hate coffee, but I wasn't allowed anything to eat or drink yet, anyway.)

After my 2nd draw, we ate lunch that we had packed and hung out until my PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). That turned out pretty good. I've been trying to remember what my numbers were in January - I remember they were way down. It was something like 31%. Then I had gone on IV's for 4 weeks and had another PFT afterward and it was 45%. Yesterday's was 42%. For those of you that don't get the numbers, just take it that it was good - for me. (I haven't been above 45% in a few years now. Hm. I was just wondering if my age and my PFT has ever matched.??) Yippee for the 42%!

I met with a social-counselor for about 30 minutes. It is a requirement in our clinic that you meet with them at least once a year due to the stress CF has on your emotional & financial well-being. After that I met with 2 CF drs. and then had more blood drawn.

All in all, it was a pretty good visit. All of my results were pretty good, especially for an "old" CFer like me.

We left Nashville around 4:30 and stopped at Cracker Barrel for supper. We arrived home about 12 1/2 hours after we'd left.

I took this picture at a Rest Area on the way home. I thought it was so pretty the way the sun was setting on the water.

My dad hung out with R for the day. They played games, watched Open Season 2 and went for a walk for 1 1/2 hours at a park near us.

Today has been so busy, between teaching school and catching up on so much work that has been piling up for the past few days.

I feel like I am never going to get caught up on reading blogs!!! I don't know if I'll have time to leave comments on all of them, but please know you aren't forgotten.

It's going to take me until next Wednesday to get caught up on reading the Memory Lane's on Lynette's blog yesterday!

  3. In answer to your question about the chicken recipe - no the seasoning doesn't all come off. You need to rub it in a bit, then pour the broth gently, so some does come off, but not all!
