Must they roll in it?

Great picture, huh? It goes with my question of the day...

Why is it that every time your dog finds something nasty, they have to roll in it? (I honestly know the answer to this - to show ownership, right? - but it is such a nasty thing to do.)

I mean, they are wandering around the yard and they see deer poop. "Oh, that smells GOOD!!! I need to ROLL in that!!!! Head first!"

My dogs did this, once again, this weekend and have been smelling RANK. Then they wonder why I don't want to pet them!!! My husband took a wet cloth to them twice, trying to clean the smell off of them.

Do you know where I'm going with this?

Aren't we kind of the same way? Something temps us and we just can't hold ourselves back. We know it's sin, we know it's going to mean trouble down the road, but for right now we are going to have our own way!

Then, when we realize we really need to "clean up", we might think it's just good enough to tell ourselves "Well, I just won't do that again." "I'll just work on that." But that's not good enough.

We need to confess to God our sin. Then we need to dig down deep and clean out the stink. Sometimes it's painful and not what we want to do. It may mean avoiding certain places, or giving up someone we've been associating with. It may mean looking inward and examining why we gave in to that sin and cleaning up that mess underneath.

My dogs are NOT going to smell better until they get a good bath and scrubbing! Wiping them down with a wet cloth or spraying them with Febreeze just isn't going to fix the problem!

We always want an easy and quick fix, but sometimes we just need to do more.

  6. Very well put! I would never had made the connection between how we wallow in our own sin and my dog's nasty habits. Glad you were able to!
