We met with the surgeon this morning and really liked him. He thinks 3 of the metatarsal breaks will heal on their own but the 4th one (big toe) is crushed and will need a plate or pins. He won't know until he does the surgery.
That freaked Ryan out, but we had a FANTASTIC nurse and she was so sweet and kind. She asked Ryan what he feared the most and talked about the fears and explained what will happen. (mostly what I told him, but she was much better!) Naturally he is still nervous, but not quite as bad at present but it's another day of waiting...
Surgery will be 8AM Saturday morning.
We found out that the ER was VERY off when prescribing his pain meds. They did 1/2 tsp. Tylenol w/ codeine every 8 hours. The dr. said he prescribes 3-4 times that for a 47 lb. child and that is EVERY 3 HOURS! Ryan weighs 142! No wonder his pain has been so bad.
I must have gotten up with him during the night last night about 20 times. He kept having night terrors or hallucinations. He'd be trying to get away from "large green grasshoppers that were crunching away at his foot" and the thrashing would hurt him further. Things like that and trying to get to bathroom and once to the computer room. I am sooo tired.
I appreciate so much your prayers and comments. They really mean a lot. I don't have time to read hardly any blogs right now and I feel badly about that. It's hard to have time to visit my own, but I am reading your sweet comments and they lift my spirit.
